There is already a discounted 5-19 fare with all bus operators – although this isn’t a specific student fare it does benefit students. Other examples of reduced fares in Norwich include the Norwich Inner Zone Young Person 5-19 day ticket, which covers all First Norwich bus services inside the Outer Ring Road, which is £4.50 for unlimited travel – the adult ticket is £5.50.  In Norwich, Konectbus offer £1 student shopper tickets for UEA students looking to travel from campus to local supermarkets, there are daily tickets for those aged 5-19 from £4, term-time bus passes from £2 per day and there are 30-day student tickets available for travel from £36.

We have considered offering a young person’s concessionary travel scheme, for reduced fares for those aged 19-25, but we do not have enough funding for a countywide scheme and we feel that this would need to be offered for all young people, not just students, to make it fair. There would need to be significant, long-term, guaranteed funding from government for such a scheme to be implemented across Norfolk, which is not currently available.
