Install a roundabout at Langley Road/Grimston Road
Title:
Install a roundabout at Langley Road/Grimston Road
Addressee:
The Cabinet Member for Highways, infrastructure and transport at Norfolk County Council
Content:
We the undersigned petition The Cabinet Member for Highways, infrastructure and transport at Norfolk County Council to change the junction at Langley Road and Grimston Road to a roundabout.
Currently, the Langley Road/Grimston Road junction is an uncontrolled T Junction, and has road users on Langley Road gives way to those on Grimston Road. Road users attempting to turn right out of Langley Road, where opportunities to pull out can be less frequent, can cause a tail back of road users along Langley Road. This could be easily resolved by changing the junction to a roundabout.
The residents who use Langley Road find it is easier to avoid the Langley Road/Grimston Road junction by taking a more circuitous route, adding to congestion in other areas, for example Wootton Road. The Kings Lynn Transport Strategy identifies the junction of Wootton Road with Grimston Road as a “Congestion Hotspot”. By placing a roundabout at the junction of Langley Road and Grimston Road, traffic originating from Langley road will be able to avoid Wootton Road and contribute to easing the traffic there.

This petition has been reviewed and the following response has been offered:
The proposed development at Knights Hill (APPLICATION REF: 16/02231/OM) has a condition requiring the delivery of traffic signals at this junction. This would offer an improvement to the junction to improve road safety and accessibility and is deemed the most appropriate form of junction improvement at this location, given the traffic flows and needs for all modes including pedestrians and cyclists.
The traffic signals would tie in with the Wootton Gap junction in terms of enabling additional capacity in the area and traffic signal timings can be changed to reflect traffic flow conditions as required to minimise congestion.
The scheme is required prior to the occupation of the 125th dwelling and a copy of the Appeal decision (Condition 9 is the appropriate one) and the indicative scheme layout (named: CORE DOCUMENTS CD/2E - APPENDIX P SIGNALISED JUNCTION LAYOUT (GRIMSTON RD/LANGLE)) can be found on the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk planning application website.
As there is a developer proposal to fund and improve this junction, the County Council will not be considering a separate scheme.
