Speeding in Fen Street

 We have lived in Fen Street for over 20 years. During this time we have attended Parish Council meetings to bring up the problem of speeding in Fen Street. At one end (the Hargham Road end) there is a speed limit of 30mph but from Fen Road (the Puddledock end) the speed limit changes to the national speed limit. We believe that this was originally because the Puddledock end is less populated than the Hargham Road end.

Due to increase of new houses, the ·number of cars, vans, and HGV Lorries driving past our house, has risen dramatically since we have lived here and the number of pedestrians walking their dogs, parents taking children for a walk, cyclists and horse traffic has also increased.

Fen Street is a narrow road only wide enough for one car I van and with its numerous blind corners this can be a problem when travelling fast and meeting other vehicles coming in the opposite direction. There have been several near misses already.

 Our concerns and also our neighbours is the increase in speed of the cars, vans and lorries that really do not respect that this is a country lane. Will it take a fatal accident for appropriate action to be taken to slow down the traffic?

We understand from the Parish Council that many residents have complained over the years about how dangerous it is to walk down Fen Street, with many refusing to walk down it and many fear it is just a matter of time until there is a serious accident/ fatality.

In 2022 we were advised by Jack Griffiths, Highway Engineer that there is a Road Safety Community Fund for speed limit reviews and this funding was due to be used in the Breckland area in 2024. We understand for this to be taken in consideration we have to deliver flyers to neighbouring properties asking them to write to you.
