On 28^th March 2022 Friends of the Earth submitted a petition to the meeting of County Council calling on the Council “to declare a climate emergency and adopt an ambitious climate action plan which rapidly reduces carbon emissions and creates a fairer, greener Norfolk’

 The Cabinet Member for Waste and Environment, Cllr Andy Grant has responded to the petition as follows:

 I thank Friends of the Earth for submitting their petition and would like to assure them that we are taking practical steps and actions to address climate change.  Norfolk County Council has an ambitious programme of work that was started in 2019 following the adoption of the Council’s Environmental Policy. This work includes working with Suffolk County Council and the Broads Authority to collectively achieve net zero carbon emissions on our estates by 2030 and work with the wider community to help others achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. One of the next steps is for the Council to work as part of a National 100 initiative (a think tank that has brought together LAs across the country to share their knowledge and petition the UK government within their collective power on environmental issues). In April 2022 Cabinet will agree on a climate action plan for Norfolk that includes making best use of the skills and knowledge of all the County Council’s partners
